The Battle of Crete
The Battle of Crete was an intense 10-day battle between Allied troops and German forces during World War II. This was the first time that paratroopers were used en masse, to effect the invasion of a target. It was fought on the island of Crete in Greece, and despite being outnumbered and outgunned, the Allies put up a valiant fight against the assault from the German parachute regiments. The battle was a crucial turning point in the war, as the Allies defence of Crete helped to stall the German invasion of Soviet territory.
